Colette Gaiter has worked with computers since 1982 and in interactive multimedia since 1990. She has a BFA in graphic design from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh and an MA from Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. She has exhibited her work internationally at the International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA), SIGGRAPH, and in numerous galleries, museums, and public institutions in the United States. To support her multimedia work, she has received several grants and awards.

After working as a graphic designer in Pittsburgh, Washington, DC, and New York City, Gaiter began teaching at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1986. Before coming to Columbia College in 2003, she taught Visual Communication, New Media Culture, and Media Graphics in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
