Robert Horton is state archivist and head of the state archives department at the Minnesota Historical Society. Before coming to Minnesota in 1997, he was head of the electronic records and records management programs at the Indiana Commission on Public Records. He is a member of the National Association of Government Archivists and Records Administrators (NAGARA), the Society of American Archivists (SAA) and the Midwest Archives Conference (MAC). For NAGARA, he was formerly secretary of the board and chair of the Committee on Electronic Records and Information Systems.
During the past few years, Horton has directed a number of electronic records and information management projects; the products of these include the Trustworthy Information Systems Handbook, Electronic Records Management Guidelines and Managing Your Government Records: Guidelines for Archives and Agencies. In addition, he has worked on a variety of projects, including the State of Minnesotaâs Electronic Real Estate Recording Task Force; the San Diego Supercomputer Centerâs Archivistsâ Workbench project and its Persistent Archives Testbed project; and the Digital Library at the University of California San Franciscoâs Center for Tobacco Control, Research and Education.
