MCN 2011: Call for Conference Volunteers

The Museum Computer Network (MCN) annual conference is approaching!

This year, the action is in Atlanta from November 15 - 19 at the downtown Hyatt Regency and we need to join up with local institutions to build up a volunteer team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for students, young professionals, and those looking for a less costly approach to professional development in museums and technology.

Read on!

Go here to find out more about this year's conference theme "Hacking the Museum: Innovation, Agility & Collaboration."

The schedule includes:

  • Engaging sessions with presentations and panels that feature an international roster of museum and digital media professionals
  • Coffee breaks, events and receptions to encourage interaction with peers
  • The THATCamp un-conference on Saturday, November 19 where open-ended presentations yield to vibrant conversations
  • And much more listed on the website...

Volunteering is a great way to off-set registration costs and the responsibilities are simple, fun, and rewarding.

One full day's conference registration is granted for each volunteer shift completed.
Shifts include:

  • Sitting the registration desk to welcome attendees and distribute conference materials (badges, gift bags, schedules, etc.)
  • Accompanying tours of local sights (Zoo Atlanta, High Art Museum, and the Coca-Cola Archives)
  • Preparing informational packets for attendees
  • Offering on-call assistance to conference organizers

Active shifts average 3 hours in length, and on-call shifts are full-day positions (8 AM - 5 PM), with the freedom to attend sessions unless assistance is needed.

Cristina Linclau is this year's volunteer coordinator and a returning MCN conference volunteer. You can contact her by phone or email to inquire about this year's schedule, and to find shifts that best suit your needs. Her information is below.

Right now, there are still shifts available on Tuesday 11/15, Wednesday 11/16, and Saturday 11/19. Signing up on these days leaves you free to attend most of the main conference program.

Thanks for considering joining the MCN community, and feel free to be in touch with questions.

Best,
