Video Recording of Sessions (Team Video Volunteers)

We are planning to record a limited number of sessions at the MCN 2011 conference and make them available online after the conference. This will be entirely accomplished by volunteers, so we need your help to make this happen!  We need volunteers who can:

  • Commit to record 1-3 sessions on Nov 17, 18 or 19 (need not be consecutive).
  • Stay for the entire sessions you are recording and potentially be available 15 min prior and/or 15 min after for setup/breakdown.
  • Be available for a brief training session early on the morning of Nov 17th.
  • Additional help with setup and breakdown of equipment on one or multiple days is desired.

What volunteers will do:

  • Attend a brief training session and follow workflow provided by MCN.
  • Help setup and test equipment in assigned sessions, assist speakers w/loading their presentations on recording laptop.
  • Run & monitor the video recording during the session.  (run real-time Camtasia software, monitor audio, advancement of slides, etc).
  • Not required: volunteers can assist with post-editing, QA and organizing files.

Ideal skills you have:

  • Good computer skills, ability to use MacBook Pro laptop.
  • Excellent technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Good coordination, communication and organizational skills.
  • Punctual and professional.
  • Basic video & audio production/editing experience (not required)

Below are the sessions we are targeting to record. These are not all confirmed yet, so plans may change, but if you already plan to attend one or more of these sessions, perhaps you'd be willing to help record?

If you are interested in helping with video recording of sessions, please e-mail VelazcoK@si.edu with your contact details and days/times you might be available.  We'll send you more info in response.

Thank you in advance for your support of this exciting initiative!

Share Your Own Video (Crowdsourcing)

We all know that good things come to those who share. We welcome anyone willing to harness the power of their own personal video recording device to record goings on at the conference and share those videos online.  Man on the street interviews, reflections on the conference, new ideas, whatever might capture the spirit of the conference! MCN may select your video for sharing on our official MCN video channels.  Just upload to your favorite video sharing site (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) and tag it "MCN2011." Then tweet us at @MuseumCN or send an e-mail to mcnmarketing@googlegroup.com to let us know the movie is there.  Below are some helpful guidelines for creating videos, if you need them.  Thanks for contributing to the community!

Note: please be sure to ask the permission in advance of exhibitors or speakers if you intend to record their presentations.  MCN does not encourage unsolicited recording of sessions without prior permission from the speakers.

Video tips:
- Make sure your video is marked for public access so we may embed & share it.
- Remember to tag your video with "MCN2011" plus useful keywords specific to the video content.
- Please keep videos as short as possible.
- Consider using video apps or editing tools available for your device to trim/edit your video.
- Include in the description some context for the video content as well as the date and location.
